Under 12 Boys Travel

The Ephrata Youth Soccer Club’s boys Under-12 travel team, the Ephrata Intensity, has openings on its roster for the fall of 2008.

The team, which plays in the Lanco soccer league and local tournaments, will be coached by Rebecca Thatcher-Murcia upon her return from a year of playing and coaching soccer in Colombia, South America.

Thatcher-Murcia has been a prolific goal scorer for her women’s soccer teams and holds a soccer coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation. She has also attended both the U.S. Youth Soccer and the National Soccer Coaches Association national conferences.

The U-12 team will work hard on player development, with an eye toward the commencement of middle school soccer in the fall of 2009. The eligible age group is players who were born between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 1997, for the most part players going into sixth grade. Any parent with a child interested in playing for the Ephrata Youth Soccer Club Under-12 travel team should send an e-mail to Becky@thatchermurcia.com or call the boys travel commissioner, Bob Witwer, at 717-490-1731.

Fall Registration:
July 1st Deadline

The Ephrata Youth Soccer Club fall season is approaching quickly and we would like to encourage you to register your child.

EYSC offers teams and programs for players of many levels and abilities starting in kindergarten and going up through high school. The club sponsors fun, low-pressure practices and games for small children, recreational teams for children starting in third grade, and travel teams for the more advanced and dedicated players -- usually starting in fourth grade. Soccer is quickly becoming our nation’s most popular participatory sport because it is a fun, uncomplicated game that is appreciated around the world for its artistry, speed and excitement. Young children love to run and kick the ball. Older children will find that you can learn the basics in a minute and take a lifetime to appreciate the finer points of the sport.

The Ephrata Youth Soccer Club is dedicated to the concept of player development. Practices and games are structured so that players learn a variety of soccer skills and tactics. Our club’s coaches are all volunteers, but many of them have played soccer in high school, college, or adult leagues. They have licenses and training through the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association and other programs. The club reimburses coaches for the cost of any training or licensing class.

Our fees for Under-6 (kindergarten) are $40, for under 7 and 8 are $50, and U10 and above are $65. This money goes toward many expenses, including equipment, insurance, referees, coaching education and fields. We do, however, understand that the cost is burdensome to some families. We offer a multi-child discount in which the third child from the same family pays only $15. We also have a scholarship program for low-income families. If you need a scholarship, call 717-371-1995 and explain your situation or write a letter explaining your need and send it with your registration.

Our registration deadline is July 1 to allow time to order uniforms, set up teams, and register with leagues. We try to accommodate late registrations, but we cannot guarantee a space on a team to those who sign-up after July 1. So whether your child is five or eighteen, a beginner or a veteran, the Ephrata Youth Soccer Club   offers a team that will be fun and educational.

Boot Exchange Program:

Starting immediately, EYSC will be offering a "Boot Exchange" program. Because younger kids grow so quickly between seasons we are offering a way for parents to turn in their unneeded cleats at the end of the season and have one available at the beginning of the next. Depending on how this goes, we will consider doing something similar with shin guards.
To donate your cleats, please contact:
